humbly, yours truly is the Philippine's 1st Scrappinmoms Idol. A mother to 4 boys who has passion for scrapbooking, altering, books, the piano, lover of bags and my blog, the internet and journal books. A physician in residencia. Wife and friend to many.
its july and time for another project at artzdescrap!!!
this time, you have to alter a story book. well, i got this plastic bath book from my kids' shelf---how many times do i have to raid their shelf for my projects eh? rulers, bags, clipboards...lol ( they have 2 of these so im not a guilty mom!). i think some of you might have this book ( free ata ito sa book fair at learning is fun)
since this is plastic, i have to "gesso" it first so that the acrylic paint will have a base.
after the gesso has dried up, paint it with your favorite color!
after much waiting....
i came up with this altered book! surprisingly...
these bedazzles are so useful to me! do you notice the scalloped accents on the side? guess what...?
those are from the edges of this blue page... i simply have to punch it using the stampin' up paper shaper to create a crunched look.
dont throw those remnants away though... they are those accents you saw on the previous picture.
the acrylic paint will not have an even coat since plastic is non-porous and would tend to "slide".
i also decided to use the FISKARS threading water punch!!! hah!
but wait... get the thin foam out of there! coz your page won't fit in the puncher..
i used the pouchy place to store some atcs and cards...
last page is just playing with paints... i am glad i was able to raid again.
this time at journaling junkie, challenge 60 by me
"This challenge will run from the 1st to the 14th of July.
We will have an RAK for the end of July as there were only 4 entries for June.
Cabbie challenges us to do a mini album of our favourite things.
You can of course interpret this in different ways; favourite things at home, favourite places to go, favourite recipes etc. Some of the team did a LO instead of a mini album and that's fine if you scrap LO's instead of mini albums too.
Looking forward to seeing your creations."
you might be wondering what i did with this 7 gypsies naked album.
crackle paint.
mod podge.
micro beads.
misting and incorporating rub-ons are good combos!
for SNR ( may 2009 issue): templates templates... i created a purse from a template using october afternoon papers, sassafras, wrmk, chatterbox chipboards! i also happened to use some brads as well...
Create a layout in honor of Father's Day, journal about a special male relationship. Be it your own father, your husband, your Grandfather, an Uncle, or a teacher. Whoever he is, let him know why he's special.
special mention to Studio Azul ( april kit ) for the materials used here.
Create a layout using "age" as a title. Journal about the significance of that age for you or that person you are scrapping about. What realizations do you have as you contemplate on that particular age. ( DT liza bermudez's challenge)
spice up your envelope ( any kind... do it yourself envelope or ready made envelopes) this june! head over to artzdescrap and see what the Designers have in stored for you. be inspired!
i used the scor-it mini for this small envelope ( size 7x7) and embellished it with anything i could find in my stash.

i am so thrilled to be included in the photo gallery of scor-it!!! the owner Tim Hammonds personally emailed me his satisfaction with my works and guess what? he wants me to make a project for the product this coming August!!!! oh my what a thrilling and uhmm challenging assignment this is! i just hope i would satisfy him again... in art's sense.
i know many people would say, why buy a scorer when your trimmer comes with it? you see, having an exclusive scorer is something, well, not really a must for all because you really can make use of your trimmer/scorer in any projects but being me, i just fell in love with this mini scor-it!
i did these truffle bags through a tutorial on the scor-it website and these are really perfect for give aways too! just put chocolates or candies inside the open baggies and there you go... a goody bag to boast.
i hope to make more projects with this wonderful tool!!!
actually i did this layout at the scrapjam but i did not join the challenge coz of under-requirment issues. i enjoyed playing with inks and paints. messy in a sense.
for the month of may at artzdescrap, a tutorial from fellow DT Bree gave us this awesome tutorial on how to make a birdhouse. since time was kind of an issue for me here, my materials consisted then of a SCRAPBOOK PACKAGE and a piece of ILLUSTRATION BOARD. talk about grace under pressure! and so this birdhouse. i hope this looks like a birdhouse to the birds!
if you are a fan of tim holtz, you will notice in his book ( distressables 2) that this adhesive is a must for adhering heavy embellishments and true enough, i find this so handy and friendly!
sticks clear, fast and very strong too! this white glue is definitely a must for every scrapbooker.
this is my first bottle and i would definitely be purchasing another one again in the future! oh this is available at Visual Creations, by the way.
to use an advert as inspiration for a scrapbook LO.
i decided to use the layout we did at mitch's place... all about dots!!! we thought it was so hard, i mean i really don't do dots that much but we ended up playing with dots ( i did play with paints!) and the outcome was what i submitted for journaling junkie challenge 56. this inspiration would in term be inspired by a tote that came into my mind. visit journaling junkie blog for other creations by fellow DTs.
i bought some canvas cloth for 77 Php a yard and tried to make it into a pouch... since i have no sewing machine, i masked the edges with ribbons ( stapled! inside of course). also tried using distress inks and stamping on this pouch or as my title said so, you can use this to store your hair brushes.
for the month of march at scrapbook news and review, this is my contribution for the altered section. i decided to make a trinket box out of a clock package box.
here are the procedures:
1. this is my box.
2. cut off the top flap.
3. to reveal an opening.
4. adhere pattern papers to each flap or side.
finished product.
front part of the box
i also adhered fabric to the insides for that cushiony feel.
the girls had a fun and challenging day at Aliwan Festival, so called because of the different colorful festival in the Philippines paraded before our eyes! all in one scene!
the rain did not stop us from taking shots of the beautiful costumes and dances from each tribe/province in the Philippines.
that's how beautiful our country is!!!
me me me.
me and symbelly taking some chance at capturing. picture c/o nita... zoomed!
the girls sans nita. nita was the good photographer here.
from left: cabbie, sym, au and kara ( au's daughter)
we had a fun day at the festival. my legs hurt but it was worth it. till the next year again. more pictures at my facebook, multiply and flickr.
i made this crackled painted journal on a used notebook. i knew i have to check my distress crackled paints because some were dried up and sadly have to throw the whole bottle away. i have thrown 2 bottles already... i wonder if the weather in the philippines has something to do with the drying up condition. if not, do we put them on the refrigerator?
some vintage photos which i printed and downloaded on the internet.
i decided to layer and played with the crackled paints lest they dry up and i won't be able to enjoy them.
my layout for visual creations featuring the 7 gypsies savannah collection. this is a simple layout with simple embellishments. i just want to capture the essence of the picture i took of aetom at the villa escudero church.
this is my ROAD TRIP mini album featuring the 7 gypsies savannah collection for Visual Creations. for a complete list of supplies, visit their gallery here
for the information of all, i used Mica films ( thank you, michelle ku) for the transparency-like look.
gauche alchemy december kit fabric; fancy pants lace; buzz and bloom flower chips; utee, kaiser craft paints
i cannot buy flowers for him, oh well, hope these flower chips would do!!! i embossed and painted on these too... wrapped in a cute fabric from the gauche alchemy kit and tied with lace, i am sure i would love these myself!
tip for all: when you buy cardstock templates, keep the original one. simply trace it on another cs or pattern paper. that way, you save the original template and create more from it.
So many people are doing the 365 - photo a day thing.
I would like to challenge us to do a LO about one of those random photos we take, that would be meaningless to others, but that make us take a step back and appreciate something small and significant just for today.
this month at artzdescrap, we are featuring our very own Nina Patena as our inspirational guest scrapper. she designed a banner made of chipboard and embellished it with so much creativity.
1. using some puzzle chipboards which has been sitting around for quite some time already.
2. resist stamping using versamark and rangers resist pad.
3. use acrylic paints
4. embossing technique with sparkling embossing powders.
this month, i craved for techniques!!! actually this was more of a mess gone wrong turned into something awesome... we discover things accidentally sometimes!
these are my layouts for Visual Creations...you can visit the gallery here for the supplies used. i would be designing mainly on Crate Paper.
SUPERSTAR
technique used: masking
picture printed on canon glossy paper.
tim holtz's fragments are a kiss to me. i just used some rub-ons and koala! an embellishment to boast.
masking technique done here using tim holtz's masks. rangers distress inks and blending foam are not to be taken for granted. they are great partners especially when creating effects with assorted colors.
bedazzles are my faves too! just squirt some glue ( or sepia accents) and pour your bedazzles on it. let it dry.
LOOK AFAR
i decided on using a Hambly screenprint transparency as my base for that elegant look. the feeling of stone in a transparent base creates a dreamy and sea-like atmosphere.
The focus of this challenge would be an everyday event and using repetition -- recording what you were thinking about either while you were taking the pictures or how the pictures made you feel after you pulled them out to get ready to scrap them -- like for instance, originally, i had planned on scrapping about how Mackenzie is scissor happy and does not like to be disturbed --- and after looking at the pictures -- i began to see something different altogether and described the event and how Mack's everyday activities might give us some perception on what she may grow up to be and why.....
drop by scrapbook news and review this saturday or let's say--- it would be sunday march 22, 2009 at 2am ( since we are 14 hours advance in time frame) philippines time, or if not, check out the site when you're free for mini classes given out by the talented staff/designers of SNR.
every hour from 12-6pm CST, classes will be taught over the forum! you can also post your questions/queries too.
hope to see you there! i will try to be around for it since it would really be in the wee hours of the morn we are talking about. if not, i will try to answer your queries as much as i could when i catch you there.
have you ever eaten palabok or pancit in bilao ( bamboo tray )? what did you do with the tray afterwards?
i am sure 85% of you might say you threw it away...
if not, you might have used it for your fruits... or anything for display, right?
but have you thought of this ???
why not make it as a home decor???
that way, you display it. make your kids happy.
and save the environment too!!!
this is my take on the tutorial for artzdescrap, march 2009. head on to their website and for sure, you will be inspired to create as we, the DTs did with Deedah's ( inspirational scrapper ) creation.

this is my take on the tutorial.. i used a frosted wineglass here and embellished with prima flowers ( with diamond glaze).. some felt heart strips ( courtesy of helga vergara-- my SK card swap partner). i also stickled them with assorted colors.
maya road sheer tickets are to die for, available at visual creations! hati kami ni au nito coz for a pack, there are 2 pieces for each design. cute!
In turn, I am giving the above-mentioned awards to the following people whose blogs I always visit (though I’m sure, some people have already given them these awards):

my journaling over the blog..
LAYOUT TO BE FEATURED AT SCRAPSTREET MAG
i love this photo so much because i was asked to pose beside those bamboos! jill lim ( my cousin in law) took the dramatic shot using my sony cybershot.. way back year 2006.
this is my DT project for artzdescrap's january tutorial using used calendar as signboard or anything... inspirational scrapper jasmin got her tutorial over at artz.
for this one, i used a used keychain calendar dated 2006 given to me by my sister...
the technique: since the cover is a transparent one, i decided to use acrylic paint. After drying it, i mixed a combo of gum arabic-pearl ex and brushed on top of the paint. i noticed that the paint moves. so to lessen destruction, i have to slowly move the paint to create a crackled and crumpled effect.
i also used Mica flakes as decorative add-ons! i would like to thank Ms. Michelle Ku of Malaysia for surprising me with these!!
the finished product.
this is Michelle's gift to me.. i just love Mica flakes... they are like plastic flakes yet so sparkling beautiful! i hope i can create more projects with this stuff.
i did this popsicle name plate during a pinoyscrapbookers EB last year (2008) at visual creations. adhering the popsicles into a fence-like stuff using glue and playing with paints are really cool!! the grungeboard are swell!
actually, i have lots of these bottles ( contrast bottles for diagnostic exams in radiology courtesy of hubby) and they are so space consuming already, i also altered some bottles but i can no longer accommodate them all and so this gimmick of giving them out to scrappers and letting them alter.
"torotot" means trumpet in the philippine language. usually, torotots are used and blown during the holidays especially the new year. i loved the color of this thing and decided to scrap it.
i also plucked a real feather from the "torotot" and attached it to the picture, that way, the layout would seemed "alive" in a way...
since the american craft thickers are foily in nature, mitch sy told me to try it out with alcohol inks... and this is the output. i also sprinkled with some beadazzles and sepia accents.
this is my project for the month of january for Artzdescrap using their beads giveaway... we are supposed to alter the beads into some kind of jewelry.
i used an Imagination Project fabric strip and adhered the little ones with Claudine Helmuth's Studio Multi Medium ( matte).
the postal notice was in time for some goodies... liza yet from singapore sent me a couple of goodies together with the giveaways from artzdescrap... alin of brunei sent me a ref magnet and a card for the scrappinkids santarina swap!! thank you girls!
my kids cant wait to taste the yummy chocos!! i told them to wait coz i have to take a shot of it first.. the altered can was created by liza yet... and each choco wrapped in cute pattern papers too!
would you believe my FATHER is a scrapbooker too???? well, when he was in Canada, he brought these stencils!!! who a father would have thought of buying these stuffs? really, it was not intended for me because my papa love the arts too ( and photography!) and now, he gave these out because he knows my passion. thanks pa! he also had those embossing powders and slow drying inks of colorbox! lol.
this is my 3rd gdt layout for journaling junkie. head on to their site for this challenge and the giveaway rak if you are chosen as the winner.
this challenge is about the year that was... the year 2000. but since i have not much pictures for that year, we were told to scrap highlights of a certain year...
the tim holtz masks are so adorable!!!! i used paints here... visual creations has some. do visit the store for other designs!
this is my tutorial sample for the month of december at artzdescrap... we were asked to make a christmas tree!
materials: styrofoam balls, icicles in string, radiant rain, inque botique chipboard, ribbons, decorative plastic gold balls, i used a heavy duty craft glue to adhere the icicles ( what a challenge). the balls are stacked upon one another with toothpick. i also sprayed the balls with radiant rain.
visit journaling junkie and you will see my take on their challenge 47 which is about christmas... join in the fun with the sketch and who knows, you might be the winner!
these are my samplers for the RSC holiday sampler issue which was published last month... well, they are now in the hands of some good friends! hope you liked it.
i got these chipboard tags from my little attic and i love these !!!!... perfect for the holiday season.
i tried to alter it by going to the max.. that is, making this stocking a non-stocking stuff!!! materials used are: grungeboard ( my fave ), some stickers, paints and buttons!but anyway, this makes a great ornament too!
hope my swap partner over at SK doesnt read my blog today. lol. techniques mostly crackled paint from rangers. leafing gold pen used as outline. love the effect of the pen...
i also emphasized the anna griffin christmas stickers ( available at visual creations) with stickles to add glitter. daisy d's rub ons are so cool. they can stick to any surface.
could you imagine the gold round thing here? guess what, its the cosmo cricket blackboard chipboard which i painted with radiant rain solar gold! i also added a winged grungeboard ( michelle bertuzzi, thanks for that!), rubons are also great accents!
Sorry for the delayed posting of my prizes when I won the Artful Blogging challenge at bookoto.com, I would want to post them "in complet0" that's why...
thanks to julie and sheryl for the awesome trio!!!! definitely A MUST READ for bloggers/scrappers like us!
One of the joys of altering is finding ways and means on how to go about changing a certain thing into something beautiful. Here i want to share with you what i did with microscopic slides ( and they go cheap with just 5 centavos per piece!) and using the digital sheets which i got as a freebie just by visiting the RetroArtCafe ( www.RetroCafeArt.com) i made these tokens and wrapped each of them in a satin cloth ( my aunt gave me a long long yard for which i duno what to do with them ). i cut then tied them up with cotton crochets... what nice gifts they would be!
TAKE NOTE: the cloth is pure white with flower prints. i thought of making them a little bit distressed and dark so i used the walnut ink antiquing solution terra cotta color, sprayed and diluted a small portion ( i cut a portion of the cloth ), dipped it into the basin of the antiquing solution. dried it up and ironed it as well.
see the difference in color.
wrapping time...
fresh as flowers...
tied them up too!!!
i used the digital freebie which i won... oops i have to print them out and cut each of them too!
how to? i pressed 2 pictures back to back then used 2 microscopic slides for that back to back pictures, one on each side. for adhering, the diamond glaze worked for me because it was transparent.
i played with the borders here: from left to right, the different borders were "made" with diamond glaze only, diamond glaze with beadazzles, rangers gold detail embossing powder, utee, sepia accent. i tried to experiment using different "sealers". while some were unsuccessful, they were lessons learned. it is only through mistakes that we learn our lessons, right?
i made 10 altered slides here and oh what a mess my table was after...
but in the end, it was worth it. it was a simple design and creation but appreciated to the extreme.
for the month of november, i recycled a box for a clock and turned it into a tissue box just in time for christmas... my work can also be seen at artzdescrap blog.

the Cosmo Cricket Blackboard chipboard album.

i had fun doing the minibook! the color black is so versatile and easy to blend with other embellishments. papers are used to the minimal too! you can add paint and any medium which the black book would look good with. white space on black is a handsome combination!
anything is good with black... the right combination will make your creation a standout!
as their guest designer, it is my privilege to scrap with the crew's A team ( with fellow pinays liza and mia castrillo there!). this is my second layout for them.
for this week, we are to scrap about our favorite brand ( or household brand). submit your layout to them and get a chance to win prizes. head on to their blog. click here.
last november 21, 2008, 8 enthusiastic scrappers gathered together in a class moderated by mitch sy and cabbie lopez.
the class started at 7:00pm and finished at 11:00pm. we had our yummy kits and enjoyed the beeswax session and other mediums too!
lots of techniques were incorporated in the said altered travel journal.
this is my prototype journal mini book.
on the other hand, this is mitch's lovely prototype.
everyone enjoyed the class though we wished time would be more flexible. we also had our great tasting dinner of Causeway's rice toppings!!! we hope to have this kind of class again in the near future!
for the month of november, a tutorial by no other than Ms. IRIS UY over at artzdescrap will surely captivate your eyes!!! this is my take on her work and design.
