scrappinmoms idol moments

date: october 6, 2007, max's resto quezon city. 6:30pm.

after being crowned, este...named scrappinmoms idol 1, my outlook in scrapbooking kinda changed. i want to scrap better, i want to explore new techniques and incorporate non-scrapbooking (stamping etc) in scrapbooking. but of course, my love and passion for it remains.

here are some of the pictures taken during the coronation of scrappinmoms idol... those moments captured by mr. jeff lopez

this is the final layout which took 3 hours to finish and using all the materials inside the kit. my first time to scrap in a 12x12 acrylic platform.

au, me and tin on the limelight!!!
scrapping the hard way...i cant even think of smiling.. i think this was approximately 1 hour more to go before the clock ticked. i have not even adhered everything on the acrylic!!!

fantastic layouts of the top 12!!! salute you girls!!!

i cannot even let go of au!!!

what a reaction... i was trying to hold back my tears of joy... i cannot even recall what pia was saying anymore!!!

a grateful message to all

when you win something, how do you feel? how do you react? what is your emotion?

when you are onstage... well, sort of like winning the oscars, how do you feel?

ask me, i did not win the oscars. but i did win something more than that and it's more than the oscars. for me, the opportunity of having the honor of winning the scrappinmoms idol is more than anything. i did not wished for it but i had hoped for it. i told myself that come what way, come what happen-- i will gladly accept it because i know that in all these weeks, i did my best. i know all the others did too.

tensed and palpitating, i can sense the whole ambience and the the audience wanting and waiting for announcement. au, me and tin were called up to the front after few elimination of names...

so when my name was called. i felt like a miss universe up there with the 2 great runner ups au and tin with me.

i just could not believe that this is it. the time has come. we all worked hard for it. the experience has left me with a notion that in scrapbooking, all you have to do is love it, have passion to do it and create things beyond your imagination. scrapbooking has taught me many things and that life is analogous to it. we live life. we scrapbook life. there are memories in life and without scrapbooking, life has no meaning.

i am so grateful to many people. they are what you call friends in times of having to defend you and boot for you. how many of them i dont have to mention. but you know who you are. you are all winners in my eyes.

i am just not the type who can speak out spontaneously in front and so i even forgot to thank the sponsors!! god!!! but i can only say it in writing that i really accept the generosity of each sponsor.. so big heart i should say.

the experience of the idol challenge taught me many great things:

1. to scrap even better.
2. to explore possibilities.
3. discipline oneself in times of stress.
4. to learn how to appreciate other's works.
5. to be thankful for the layout you did.

thank you scrappinmoms for giving me this opportunity to express my layouts in a most creative way and for giving me a chance and to let the world know that we, as filipinos, can be as artistic and talented as we can be.

my first alcohol ink projects

i am so happy to share some of my alcohol ink projects which i did for the first time. i love these babes because even if you're a first timer, you would be able to create anything under the sun. and it dries fast too!

i used a blank CD tin here. the good thing about alcohol ink is that there is nothing to prep. just squirt and dab and you're all go.

do you see the flower? i just dab inks on glossy paper, stamped a flower image and embossed it. i then cut it out and koala! there you have it. i also inked the buttons!

take a close look at the gold flourish. that's embossing and stamping. the leaves were made from stamping green and butterscotch colors on glossy paper and cut it out in leaf design.

these are cheap microscopic slides which i inked, again, stamp and emboss! the right side slide seemed a bit distressed, i followed a technique on the internet about mixing alcohol ink and UTEE.. turned out that way... lol.

this is another card which i made using the technique. note the different color patterns you can create!! plus the button too!!

thank you MLA-SH for bringing this in and most especially to babette who inspired me to start this...

clarifications about winning

i read a certain comment on a blog about my winning entry on a challenge that i started. she said she wanted to borrow my crazed voters for the next round.

well, frankly, i don't own my voters and to top it all, i dont campaign and i do not dictate them to vote for me. i am not so desperate to win because i am the challenger.

as a challenger, i tried my best to solicit prizes so that the winner would feel happy! though the prize is just a piece of icing, i was so excited for the winner ( which i know would not be me definitely). i took time to get the prize even in the nick of time... all for the winner herself...i was eyeing for that somebody in the first place.

until i found out i was way ahead with 3 votes. never did i campaign. never did i ask help or anything because i feel i don't need to. i was the challenger, it was like i am the judge of all because i hold the prize...

and so to be commented upon that i own those crazed voters would be the most disgraceful thing to say to someone who has no intention of doing something like that. for me, this is an insult. this is just like you are hitting the wrong person...

my friends dont see me as a malingerer; nor do they see me as someone trying to make her way out when all fails. they know me. i am never like that.

and if those crazed voters out there voted for me more than what they voted, that is not my control anymore. it would not be my fault either because i do not know them. maybe she is a fan, a stalker for all i care...

i dont own them or her and if you want to borrow them or her, its all yours to keep.

stash from MLA open house

i had to travel 1.5 hours to reach alabang last saturday and with the traffic and rains, i made it to the MLA-Scrapbookshawaii open house... there i met co-scrappers jeannie, christine v., jillian and pia shopping some stuffs from nette and marissa. i have to get my rak prize and my pre-order stuffs too so it was really my perogative to drop by nette's beautiful and classy mansion.. thanks nette for the food and drinks! what a warm welcome. and also, it is not my way to visit a store without having to shop and so, this little girl in me hoarded a little bit. can you imagine this is my first time to visit nette's store and to tell you that this is my first scrapbooking store ever since i started scrapbooking?

i stayed for 2 hours there. oh well, i was so happy clutching my box full of candies! i cant wait to try the alcohol inks. i have so many ideas popping inside my mind right now...

Desiderata for Scrapbookers

Desiderata for Scrapbookers
(with my sincerest apologies to Max Ehrmann)

Go placidly amid the aisles of Michael’s and Archivers,
and remember what peace there may be in knowing that
you do not have to have everything.

As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all scrapbooking salespersons
and store owners. (That 10% discount is your reward.)

Speak your comments on LOs quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the newbies;
they too have something to share.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
(Somehow, all that comes to mind are Au and Nita.
And the exact opposite is true. They are loud
and spirited, but hardly annoying.)

If you compare your layouts with others’ layouts,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser layouts than yours.

Enjoy your finished layouts as well as the process.

Keep interested in your own stories, however humble;
they are real possessions that should be scrapped in time.

Exercise caution in buying scrapping supplies;
for the world is full of trends.
But let this not blind you to what a good sale is;
many stores strive for 49% discounts;
and everywhere the web is full of online stores with free shipping.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign scrapbooking styles.
Neither be cynical about your layout;
for in the face of losing at challenges
your acid-free materials are as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of other more experienced scrapbookers
but do not gracefully surrender the things that make you, you.

Nurture kindred scrapbooking spirits to crop with.
But do not distress yourself with trying to “keep up”.
Many fears are born of fatigue and wanting.
Beyond EBs and crop parties,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a scrapbooker of the universe,
no less than the Memory Makers Masters and the CK Scrapbookers of the Year;
you have a right to scrap.
And whether or not it is as clear as a Hambly transparency to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding like an accordion album.

Therefore be at peace with your partners,
whatever s/he may think of your scrapbooking,
and whether in Scrapfests or Scrapmeets,
in the noisy confusion of shopping keep peace with your wallet.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Scrap it.
Strive to be real.

thanks lee !

scrapper's RULES

i have been scrapping for more than a year and i am as innocent as a baby when it comes to rules. and so while reading some scrapbook mag, i came across with the RULE OF THREE. i know everybody might be familiar with this because the first time i heard this was just last week through Lee. and when i came across this again, i thought that maybe i should deal with these rules. there are also other rules like the RULE OF THE TRIANGLE, the RULE OF Z and the GOLDEN RATIO.

I got these tipes from scrappyshack.com.au::

SCRAPPER'S RULE OF THREE: One of my favourite methods in planning a scrapbook layout is simple to remember and easy to put into place. Divide your page into thirds horizontally and vertically (either physically or in your imagination). This now creates a grid of nine squares. Where these lines intersect are the points where your viewer's eye is naturally drawn. Use these points to place your key items. You can also use the lines as an indication of where to run a ribbon or place a torn strip of paper etc.

TRIANGLES: A simple way to create balance with your layouts is by creating an invisible triangle. do this by placing your photographs or embellishments where you would imagine the three points of your triangle to be. This way your viewer's eyes flow between the subjects on your design. You can combine your embellishments and images to create your triangle.

got this from scrapsofmind.com

A close relation of the Rule of Thirds Principle is ‘Z’ Movement. This refers to the placement of elements to form an imaginary Z shape that guides the eye through the design.

Now this isn’t rocket science, but if you combine these two techniques in your scrapbook layout design you will have a really powerful framework to build your layout on. And your elements will almost seem to place themselves quite naturally.

When I am struggling to find inspiration for the design of my layouts (especially my paper scrapping ones) I find these two techniques are an absolute boon and really help me out of that design block hole.

THE GOLDEN RATIO (scrapbooksbydesign.net):

This "rule of odds" suggests that an odd number of subjects in scrapbook layout design is more interesting than an even number. Thus if you have more than one photo in your layout, the suggestion is to choose an arrangement with at least three photo. An even number of subjects produces symmetries in the image, which can appear less natural.

hope this helps me and you!

for the love of scrapbooking

when you love something and passionate about it, it will show in what you are doing. take this case... scrapbooking. only a scrapbooker would understand a scrapbooker. and when you really love your craft, it will show. there will be a heart in there. not anything but a pure love for it. your layout doesnt have to be the best, it doesnt have to fit everyone's eyes because when you pour your love in it, it will just show and that's the most important.

now i understand nina.

how did nina felt? now i understand. when you are expecting something and you did not get what you want, you felt what nina felt. even though i said i was not expecting, deep in my heart i know that i can be a part of that expectation but i did not get what i want and now i know how nina felt that time.

you cannot blame anyone but yourself, the circumstances, the destiny that was meant to happen. i have a story to tell... i would be able to tell when a bad thing is about to happen. talk about clumsiness. everything falls down, from spoons to things, to soaps etc.

these past few days this has been my case. everything is clumsy without my doing.

and it's true. talk about sixth sense. talk about destiny and fate.

i understand now, nina.

so please dont dubbed me. no titles. no expectations.
